Quseir is a city with a population of 40.000. It is situated 120 km south of Hurghada on the Red Sea. In ancient time, the city was the southernmost outpost of the Roman Empire. In the harbour, trade was developed with India and other parts of South Asia.
Since its pinnacle of greatness, Quseir has experienced both economic peaks and valleys. In past years, Quseir has slumbered, like a “Sleeping Beauty”. We feel that the time of awakening has come. Today, Quseir has great potential as a tourist resort. It has great charm, many historical structures and a beautiful location right on the Red Sea.
For some years Carpe Vitam has been engaged in the development of Quseir and actively supports several projects, for the purpose of both preserving the cultural heritage and developing the city’s potential.
Over the years, Carpe Vitam has received tremendous support from Suzanna Mubarak. Ismail Serageldin; Head of the Library in Alexandria and President of NGO Carpe Vitam in Egypt; General Saad Abu Rida, Governor of the Red Sea Governance and General Mohamed Amin Makashet, the Mayor of Quseir – for all this we are deeply grateful, for without their assistance Carpe Vitam would not have been able to realise its vision of developing the City of Quseir.
The project can be divided into the educational division (for adults and children, both men and women) and the economic division, which is involved in developing the city’s infrastructure.
